Many addicts, who are very poor, commit economic crimes in order to get money to satisfy there addiction needs. They commit crimes like armed robbery, mugging, shop lifting and auto theft in order to buy crack. Selling crack is obviusly illegal itself, and many dealers chose to do this desptie the fact it is illegal because selling crack can be very profitable for the dealer. Also drug dealers might rob other dealers for more money.
When addicts use crack, the drug can psychologically affect the users mind to change their behavioral patterns, which can ultimetly lead to crime. Sometimes crack can make the user more aggresive. The euphoria achieved through using crack could make the user brave enough to commit a crime if they had not already been courageous enough to do so. Some users use crack purposely for this reason, others unintentionally become more courageous. Also, using crack might also have a different effect and instead make the user more vunerable or more likely to be a victim of a crime. The psychological effects of crack can overall cause more crime.
Within the crack infested communties throught America during the crack epidemic there was a system that ran through the illeagal drug market. This system was maintained violence. Drug dealers were often threatend in order to keep them in check. For example some crimes were commited to punish drug dealers for selling phony drugs. Other crimes commited were killing police informers. Also drug gangs used much violence to establish territory and sales in these 'crack communites'.
